Dear Holy Rosary Parishioners, here are a few announcements:
Rosary: This week after Mass we will be praying the rosary for all of our generous benefactors. Kristen will be leading us.
Visiting Priest: Fr. Bill Hanrahan, whose picture is on the holyrosaryalaska.org website, will be coming to Bristol Bay during Holy Week to help out. We will be discussion the specifics when I see him at the pastoral day in Anchorage Feb 12th. Fr. Bill is a retired military priest who resides in Seward, Alaska. He has a private pilot certificate and his own airplane.
Gospel: Jesus heals an evil spirit in the Gospel. The topic for the homily this week will be abortion. The objective will be to help people understand the teachings of the church.
Women’s Group: The women’s group meets after Mass each Sunday in the rectory. Come and join the bible study. All are welcome.
Catechism: After Mass starting the first Sunday of Lent, there will be instruction for families who want to learn more about the Catholic Church. If you child has not received first communion and is seven years of age, this would be a golden opportunity to prepare them. We will meet after mass for about a half hour through Lent and Easter.
Thank you: Thank you to Becky and Spruce for providing beautiful music for the Mass last Sunday. Your time and talent is greatly appreciated.
Prayers: Bob and Barb Leingang’s son Mark is recovering in the hospital. Please keep him in your prayers.
Sunday Collection: Thank you to all who donate so generously to our Sunday Collection. Per family, Holy Rosary donates more than any other parish in the Archdiocese. Keep up the great work and thank you so much!
House Blessing: Mary and Evan Franklin’s house was blessed this week. If you would like your house blessed, be sure to let me know.

Announcements: 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Holy Rosary Parishioners, here are a few announcements:
Rosary: Kristen C. will be leading the rosary after Mass the first Sunday of February. Please join us in praying for the generous Anchorage Archdiocesan parishes that have donated to help pay for our heating fuel. Saint Joseph in Cordova just sent us a check for $1000. We have raised over 12,000 so far. Last month heating bill for both the church and rectory was over $3000.
Women’s Group: After Mass next week the women’s group will be meeting in the office in the rectory. They are currently discussing the bible. Please join them after Mass until 2:30 PM.
Thank you: Thank you Rick T. for taking time out of your busy schedule to plow the Holy Rosary parking lot. It really helped us out. You did a great job and we appreciate the time and talent you have donated to the church!!
Thank you: Thank you Jackie C. for volunteering to pick up our new parishioner and give her a ride to work. We appreciate you hospitality immensely.
Thank you: Speaking of new parishioners, thank you Spruce for volunteering to play the piano at Mass. Bernie V. and I have moved the Yamaha key board from the basement to the music section.
Catechism: Church teachings and instruction will be available to all who would like to learn more about our Catholic Church. We will meet after Mass starting the first Sunday of Lent.
Gospel: The readings for the next couple of weeks are about healing. Over the next couple of weeks I hope to be talking about abortion, i.e. church teaching, healing, reconciliation, pro-choice, pro-life, canon law, etc.

Announcements: 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Holy Rosary Parishioners, here are a few announcements:
Woman’s Group: Holy Rosary has started a women’s group. It will be meeting after Mass in the Rectory. Currently, they have begun a bible study. Books and bibles will be available. My hope is that this group will help direct the course of our church, for example, plan potlucks, help with catechism, offer bible studies, help with financial decisions, and organize community service programs.
Rosary: Kristen C. will be leading the rosary Feb 1, 2009 after Mass. All are welcome. We will be praying for the generous parishes in the Anchorage diocese who have donated money to heat the church and rectory.
Catechism: Starting March 1, 2009, which is the first Sunday of Lent, there will be catechism after Mass for families. The lessons are planned to last 30 minutes and will continue through Easter.
Gospel: This week is vocations week. The readings are about responding to God’s call. Have you committed to a vocation in life? There are three vocations in life…that is it: single, married, and religious life. If you have committed to one of these, chances are you have found an abundant amount of peace, but God is still calling you to serve others in a unique and special way. Are you open to that calling?
Thank you: William T. for the ride from my plane to church. I made it at exactly 12:30. I would have been late if he had not been waiting for me after I landed. I had walked the four blocks or so to the airport.
Iced-up: I experienced my first severe ice encounter while flying in the Alaskan bush about 11:00 AM, Sunday morning, Jan11. Ice on the wings, disrupts the air flow and the plane could stall out in mid air. Five miles outside of Dillingham, coming from King Salmon, my windshield and wings glazed over with ice. Despite the four calls to check for weather, ice fog and freezing rain moved over the Dillingham airport before I arrived. It took about 15 seconds to completely cover my windshield. On top of that the wind was gusting to 28 knots. I turned around using instruments and the side window and headed back to King Salmon. I lost some power as well. I saw weather in Clarks Point was clear so I landed there instead, used a marine radio to call Mariano (a resident of Clarks Point), and we waited out the weather. After landing William T. picked me up at the airport. He had been watching me land and knew I needed a ride because I always leave my truck at the church, with is only a few blocks away. Thanks to William, I made it back for the 12:30 Mass in Dillingham.

Announcements: Baptism of the Lord
Dear Holy Rosary Parishioners, here are a few announcements:
Catechism: The first catechism class will be for everyone, but the instruction will be on a level that children will understand. The first session will walk the children through the proper posture used in the church, i.e. bowing, genuflecting, reverence, etc. It will begin the first Sunday of Lent, March 1st. Since this is a rosary Sunday, the children will first be asked to lead the rosary before moving onto the instruction.
Woman’s Group: If you are interested in being involved in the Holy Rosary woman’s group, please contact me or Joan Reynolds.
Gospel: There is rich symbolism in the Baptism of the Lord. Why did John baptize Jesus, when Jesus was sinless? What is symbolic about full immersion? What does our church teach about full immersion?
Thank you: Kara served for the first time as altar server last Sunday. She did a great job. Thank you so much Kara!
Thank you: Thank you to Yolanda for leading the rosary last week. NICE JOB Yolanda!
Thank you: Thank you for all who helped to take down the Christmas decorations. Many hands made short work of it. I hated to see that beautiful Christmas tree go.
Thank you: Thank you to the Walsh family for donating the hindquarter of Moose. Bernie helped me package it and it is all wrapped up and in the freezer.

Announcements: Holy Family: Mary,Jesus,Joseph
Dear Holy Rosary Parishioners, here are the announcements for Sunday, December 28th.
Woman’s Group: The Holy Rosary women’s group plans to have there first meeting very soon. Please contact Joan Reynolds for more information, 842-2257.
Gospel: The gospel is about the presentation of the Lord in the temple. The family unit is important to God and the Holy Family gives us a great example of what we can do in our families to make them stronger and healthier.
Prayer Card: Most people were given a prayer card at mass. Each card has two things to pray for and a saint to look up. Let that saint be your intercessor this year as you pray!
Catechism: Starting the first Sunday of Lent, there will be catechism for children after Mass for about one-half hour. All are invited to listen in.
Rosary: The next rosary will be prayed after Mass January 4th. If you would like to lead one of these monthly rosaries, please sign up in the back of the church.

Dear Holy Rosary parishioners, here are a few announcements:
Christmas Eve Candlelight Mass: Mass will be at 8:00 P.M. (weather permitting). There will be a communion service if I get stuck in King Salmon. A special treat will be handed out to children during the announcements.
Religious Education: Starting the first Sunday of Lent (Sunday, March 1st, 2009) and ending at Easter, there will be religious education (for one-half hour) for children after Mass downstairs. All are welcome to attend. If you are interested in helping with the lesson plan, please let me know.
Woman’s Group: There has been a suggestion about getting together a Holy Rosary Woman’s group to meet on Monday’s at 5:15 PM. If you are interested let me know or contact Joan Reynolds at 2257.
Saint Prayer Cards: At the Christmas Eve Mass all will receive a credit card with a name of a saint, a prayer for others, and a prayer for you, i.e. Saint Benedict, say three hail Mary’s for Vocations, say the “glory be” three times for patience. The prayer “credit card” can be kept in your wallet or purse. The idea is to pray daily these prayers and look up the saint on your card and use that saint to intercede for you throughout Lent…the year!
Rosary: There have been leaders chosen to lead the rosary after Mass the first Sunday of every week. If you would like to be on the list of leaders, please sign up in the back of the church.
Gospel: The gospel is about the Nativity. We will be using the readings for Midnight Mass. Quiz your children on the Nativity because there will be questions asked about it during the homily.
Thank you: Thanx to all that helped to set up the Christmas tree, decorations, brought food, and cleaned up! It looks great and smells like Christmas.
